Dinner

Having reached - finally - our goal of Laschamp we finally found a Gite to stay at - no campground around. After a welcome shower it was down to the bar and a couple of restorative cold beers.

A couple of buses full of French school children arrived but thankfully we had our part of the restaurant to our selves. As is common there was no menu, no choice and our food just started to arrive. First sautéed chicken livers on a bed of lettuce with lovely bread in the side.

Following this was a plate full of potatoes cooked in cream and cheese, a slice of local Parma ham and salad - really hit the spot.

Washed down with a bottle of white wine was a great end to the day. As we were sitting finishing the wine and talking, a small troop of the teenagers arrived at our table, sent by their English teacher to practice their English - most of them were from Paris and spoke good if schoolgirl giggly English.

It was our second people encounter of the day, having met two German cyclists on the train. One of them was a priest (!) and together they would go on week long cycling holidays, covering up to 200k a day or more, with just a single pack on their backs.

Anyway, it's the morning of Day Du, glorious morning, time for breakfast, coffee and to hit the road.

PS bet you didn't know you can use a small bedside lamp to dry underpants:

Actually it would appear you can. And don't blame me, they aren't mine, they are Simon's, I'm going commando it's a cycling trip after all!

Leave you with that thought! ;)
